Shrewsbury Robotics

467 is starting with a bang! Our team is divided into sub-teams, which split further into specific subsystems. This ensures that the experienced kids are spread out, while the new kids get to learn the ropes. The mechanical subteam contains six prototyping teams; varying from deep cage testing to algae manipulation. These teams are deciding on major design choices and prototyping before heading into CAD to make higher-fidelity designs.

Reefscape is officially live! Our team got together for a watch party of the livestream, and safe to say we were impressed with the new style of gameplay. Excitement carried throughout the day as the team rushed to decrypt the game manual and start to formulate a game plan, even through our lunch break. Cannot wait to see what this season has in store for us, see you at week 1 Southern Maine district event!

Shrewsbury Robotics has come to the end of our 2024/25 FIRST LEGO League season. We have had a great year mentoring teams for Shrewsbury Public Schools and are very pleased with how much they have achieved especially for what is their rookie year for most of them.

We started with 16 teams comprised of 5th-8th grade students, in general 5/6 students on a team. Each team was coached by parent volunteers who in turn were mentored by High School FIRST Robotics team members and mentors. We helped the teams by teaching how to use the new Spike LEGO kits, assistance with building robots and developing projects. In addition, we provided the teams with 2 mock competitions that included full judging sessions.

On Saturday, December 7, our team hosted our 17th Mindstorm Mayhem qualifier. It was an exciting event, allowing young creators to compete on a local level while still being exposed to a competitive environment.

With an incredible turnout of nearly 36 teams, we were able to provide the students with a fun and challenging competition.

In addition, two former FLL members reunited with MC King and took a picture to celebrate as seen below. With smiles all around, our team members created new connections making a truly memorable occasion. As always, we can’t wait for the next time we host Mindstorm Mayhem. See you there!

The weekend before Thanksgiving, FRC Team 467: Center of Mass proudly hosted our 22nd Annual Thanksgiving Pie Bake! This longstanding tradition has been a cherished part of our team’s culture, bringing together students, mentors, parents, and supporters to not only serve our local community but also give back in meaningful ways. Over the years, it has grown into a smooth operation and a heartwarming way to celebrate the season of giving.

We are pleased to share the Team 467 submission for the 2025 FIRST Robotics Safety Animation Award.

The student talent on display here is incredible - all the Storyboards, 2D & 3D Animation, Rendering, Lighting, Soundtrack, Production and Editing were created by the 467 student team members.

Team 14 attended the Marlborough qualifiers and we qualified to go to the states. We also won an innovation project award.

I thank all the Shrewsbury Robotics organizers for their invaluable help and guidance during the mock competitions and outside of it. Without their support we wouldn’t have improved our project, robot design and our game. One lesson we learned during the competition is to teach your kids to review the robot game rubrics carefully and to discuss any discrepancy with the judges respectfully. They were able to point out the gaps and get the scores. I wish all the team the very best for the upcoming qualifiers. Go Shrewsbury!

This year, FRC Team 467: Center of Mass sponsored 16 FIRST LEGO League teams made up of students in 5th-8th grade. These FLL teams form a crucial part of our objective to promote STEM education.

We provided the teams with LEGO robotics kits for building their robot, as well as a place to meet and work. In addition to the kits, we make sure that the teams receive enough support. Experienced mentors, alumni, and high school students help our FLL teams in building, programming, and preparing their presentations.

Fall, along with a myriad of vibrant hues, also brings us the Shrewsbury Robotics Open House. This year, it will be held on Saturday November 9th from 1:00-4:00 p.m.

The highlight of the day will be the shop tour which includes introducing the newest addition to our manufacturing capability, our new Shop Sabre CNC table.

We will also have STEM based activities for Elementary and Middle School kids! Various stations will explain parts of our robot design - how is a robot controlled? What does it use to move around so fluidly? How can it pick game pieces up off the ground and fling them across the room?

For over a decade, FIRST Robotics Team 467 has been known as the Colonials, aligning with the historic sports team name used by our home at Shrewsbury High School. This name has served us well, however we’ve felt for some time that it didn’t perfectly fit our robotics team, or align with the naming style adopted by other FIRST teams, many of whom have selected names that are derived from well known math, engineering or science concepts.
